New regulation

A law allowing energy vulnerable consumers to pay their bills considering their entire living situation.

If a household's gas and electricity contract is terminated during the winter months (between October 1 and March 31) because consumers are unable to pay their bills, a default supplier (Sibelga) takes upon the supply for this household until the end of the season.

This programme is focused on the incorporation of non-conventional renewable energies, energy efficiency and reduction of energy gaps. It aims for the development of a communal energy policy, adapted to the particular conditions of the territory.

This law is among the most effective in the EU in providing vulnerable people protection against energy poverty.
