Valencia Energy Office Valencia Energy Office

National project

The Valencia Energy Office (https://climaienergia.com/es/oficina-de-l-energia/que-es-la-oficina/) is a one-stop-shop to assess, inform and give support to the citizens in terms of energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy poverty and energy transition. The Valencia city council, through the Valencia Climate and Energy foundation, has launched the first Energy Office in the city. The Energy Office aims to operate as a one-stop-shop to assess, inform and give support to the citizens in terms of energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy poverty and energy transition. The Energy Office's main objective is to inform and build the capacity of local stakeholders in relation with the energy transition of the city of Valencia, giving citizens the tools and information needed to participate in the energy transition as active players.

With a budget between 100.000 and 1M€, the Energy Office carries out multiple activities including socio-energy audits, bill support, information and awareness-raising campaigns as well as empowerment activities such as training on energy efficiency and right to energy. The Energy Office especially attend energy-poor households in coordination with social services and NGOs through specific training, and household mentoring program.

Actions include socio-energy audits for the identification of possible inefficiencies, training on behavioural changes to reduce and optimize energy use, provision of an "energy efficiency kit" to help improve energy consumption optimization and follow-up of interventions to assess their impact on vulnerable households' economy and wellbeing.

The Energy Office is also promoting the first two energy communities of the city, through the organization of several co-creation workshops including neighbours and energy experts. The objective is to promote these innovative schemes to serve as examples for the replication and scale-up of energy communities in the whole city of Valencia, aiming to include vulnerable households so they can benefit from clean and cheap energy production.

The Valencia Climate and Energy foundation intends to progressively replicate the Energy Office in different neighbourhoods of the city aiming to accelerate the energy transition and defend the right to energy for all citizens.

The project started in 2019 and still ongoing. It addresses the topics of behaviour, climate change, communities, information and awareness, renewable energy, energy access and consumption, energy audits, energy efficiency and vulnerable consumers (disabled, students, tenants, public housing inhabitants).
